Not Entirely
I shared a story on social about 'Humanity has failed'. Thankfully, someone on the other side of the world wrote to me: 'Not entirely. And I smiled. I can hear music, sometimes with difficulty - I admit - even when nothing or no one is playing. People who can compose melodies do exist and won’t need instruments to do so. Some of them play the instrument of kindness and the scent of the wood invades their lungs.
All you have to do is listen, pay attention. We miss out on whole concerts, distracted by the often insignificant notes that clatter through our lives. And we let woodworms excavate such precious, such living material.
But the more the world goes loud and out of tune, the more we should learn to listen. Learn new chords, new hand positions, teach those who cannot, extrapolate frequencies and rework them if necessary. You can also play with your eyes or with a few words.
You can play just by listening. Whatever our medium, whatever the cost, there has never been a greater need to compose beauty.
